"The Man"
Our lineage begins with Grandmaster Helio Gracie. He was the person who transformed the art that his family learned from a migrating Japanese Jiu-Jitsu fighter named Esai Maeda a.k.a. Count Koma. He is the reason we fight the way we do. He changed the original Japanese Jiu-Jitsu he learned from his brother Carlos about 75% especially in the defensive aspects. Because of this he is considered the creator of Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is also considered by many to be the pioneer of "No-Rules" fighting for the many challenge fights he had in his quest to perfect his family's art. He trained Master Carlos "Caique" Elias. Rest in peace and thank you for sharing your family's art with the world!

Master Carlos Henrique Elias received his black belt from Grandmaster Helio Gracie. He is known as "Caique" in the JIu-Jitsu world. He was one of the top students at the main Gracie Academy in Brazil (Gracie Humaita). Having trained alongside with the likes of Relson, Rickson, Rorion, Royler, Royce, and others; Grandmaster Helio Gracie considered him to be one of the best students besides his own sons. He was one of Rickson Gracie's top sparring partners. He received his Red and Black Belt from Master Rickson Gracie as Grandmaster Helio Gracie had already passed away. Master Caique is one the top 6 highest ranked instructors in the U.S. Today. Master Caique Elias taught Prof. Art Alvarado.
Prof. Art Alvarado is a Certified First-Degree Black Belt with a red patch which means he is not only a Black Belt Fighter but also a Black Belt Instructor. He started training at the Gracie Academy in Torrance, California under Rorion and Royce Gracie in late 1994. That is where he met Master Caique Elias. Prof. Art Alvarado is now ready to teach you in the Gracie Method of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
